24 miles from Coos Bay/North Bend, east up the Coos River past Allegany and the west fork of the Millicoma, literally “where the sidewalk ends,” is one of the hidden gems of Coos County; Golden and Silver Falls.
The beauty of the falls aside, there is history there. Above Golden falls a pack trail from the 1800’s leads into the backcountry of Glen Creek Valley and Scottsburg. Blasted out in 1901 by Glen Creek homesteaders, the trail above Golden Falls became a “road” that was serviced by the county until 1958 when the last of the related homesteaders moved out of the valley.
